Remember to never use wax on a surface finish when cleaning wood flooring. Sometimes it may so happen that you fail to observe the spot for a long time, and stain may go deeper, thus leaving you with no option but to replace the board.
Minor scratches on a waxed floor may easily be cleared by re-waxing the surface followed by buffing . Especially prepared touch-up kits are available for treating surface finished floors. You can find the latter in most specialized shops. It will contain hardwood floor cleaner too. Food stains and chunks need to be blotted lightly with a damp but well wrung out cloth, then scrapped off carefully without damaging the surface. Plastic tools do a better job in this case.
You should take immediate remedial action if a wax floor gets affected by certain oils or greases as they may cause severe damage to such a floor. Use home varnish cleaning for this. In case of a floor with a wax finish, soak up the material thoroughly and clean the spot with a clean dry sponge before finally wiping off the residue with a clan cloth. Depending on the severity, you may have to do it more than once.Use mineral spirits and trisodium phosphate (if you have) on a soft cloth to rub the area gently until the problem disappears.
